WHAT STORAGEREALLY COSTS.
An honest look at what car storage costs in Portugal — from open-air pitches to preservation halls — what drives the price, and what the cheapest option leaves out.
“How much?” is the first question every owner asks, and the least useful one on its own. Car storage in Portugal ranges from a few euros a day for a patch of gravel to several hundred euros a month for an indoor hall — and the two are not the same product at different prices. They are different products.
This guide sets out what storage actually costs, what moves the figure up or down, and what a cheap option tends to cost later. Every figure here comes from a published rate or an advertised listing, checked in September 2026.
THE SHORT ANSWER.
At Vault 620, indoor, dedicated storage begins from €300 a month, VAT included. That figure is not a bay and a key. It includes a dedicated, marked space for your car in an insulated, naturally dry hall in the central Algarve; an environment that holds steady through the seasons; Faro Airport transfers both ways, in our vehicle; and monitoring around the clock.
Two extras are optional: a care package at €30 a month — battery conditioning, tyre pressures and a check every two weeks — and a wash before your return at €40. Days beyond a full month are €10 each, and storage is paid in full on confirmation.
Concierge work — servicing, IPO inspection, detailing — and enclosed collection and delivery beyond the airport run are priced on request, because no two journeys and no two cars are alike. For the longest stays, Bubble Protection is available on request too.
WHAT DRIVES THE PRICE.
Indoor or outdoor. The single largest difference. An outdoor pitch keeps a car off the street; it does nothing about the sun, dust, bird lime or salt air that work on paint and rubber all year.
Climate stability. A roof is not an environment. An ordinary garage follows the weather — heat cycles in summer, settled damp in winter. A hall built to stay dry and steady costs more to provide, and it is the part that actually preserves the car.
Security. Restricted, logged access, round-the-clock monitoring and an unpublished address are not free, and they are what let you fly home without thinking about the car.
Care included. Battery conditioning and tyre care are the difference between a car that starts on your return and one that needs a recovery truck. Some prices include them; most do not.
Minimum stay. Day rates with a 30-day minimum, monthly contracts, seasonal stays — read the terms before comparing headline numbers, because the unit of time changes the sum.
AN HONEST COMPARISON.
Published rates and advertised listings for the options owners in Portugal actually consider, as of September 2026. UK figures are included because many of our clients compare against what they pay at home.
| Option | Typical price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Faro Airport long-stay car park (P3) | Check ANA's current tariff | A parking bay. No battery or tyre care. |
| Outdoor storage, Algarve | From about €30 a month | An open-air pitch. Sun, dust and salt air included. |
| Garage or parking space rental, Lisbon | About €90–150 a month; up to about €210 in Chiado | A covered space. The care is still yours to arrange. |
| Specialist storage, United Kingdom | About £100–315 a month | From basic space for cars under £20k to climate-controlled halls; some rates quoted before VAT. |
| Prestige indoor storage, elsewhere in the Algarve | About €600 a month (introductory €20 a day, 30-day minimum) | Indoor storage at a published introductory day rate. |
| Vault 620, central Algarve | From €300 a month, VAT included | Dedicated indoor space, steady environment, Faro Airport transfers both ways, 24/7 monitoring. |

WHAT A CHEAP OPTION REALLY COSTS.
The cheapest monthly figure is rarely the cheapest season. The bill simply arrives later, and in other forms.
The battery. A stored battery discharges on its own, and a modern car draws on it even while parked. Months without a conditioner can take it from healthy to unrecoverable — and on some cars a flat battery means locked electronics before it means jump leads.
The tyres. Rubber under a stationary load deforms where it meets the ground. Pressures drift down over months; a long stay can set the flat spot permanently, and the fix is a new set.
Humidity. Winter here is the damp season. Unheated spaces sweat, brake discs bloom with rust, and leather in a cold, moist cabin invites mould.
The sun. An Algarve summer in the open bakes paint, trim, dashboards and rubber seals — slowly, and in ways a valet cannot reverse.
The fixed costs. None of these options, ours included, removes what the car owes the state. IUC is still due every year, and third-party insurance is still compulsory unless the registration is formally cancelled. Budget for them whichever storage you choose.
QUESTIONS OWNERS ASK.
How much does it cost to store a car in Portugal?
It depends on what you are buying. An outdoor pitch in the Algarve starts at about €30 a month; a rented garage space in Lisbon runs from about €90 to €210. Indoor preservation storage, where the car is actually looked after, starts at €300 a month with Vault 620 — and a published prestige introductory rate elsewhere in the Algarve works out at about €600.
What does Vault 620's €300 a month include?
A dedicated, marked space for one car in an insulated, naturally dry hall; Faro Airport transfers both ways, in our vehicle; and monitoring around the clock. VAT is included. A care package — battery conditioning, tyre pressures and a check every two weeks — is optional at €30 a month, a wash before your return is €40, and days beyond a full month are €10 each.
Is collection and delivery included in the price?
Faro Airport transfers both ways, in our vehicle, are included with monthly storage. Collection and delivery from anywhere else are separate services, priced on request. The car travels by specialist enclosed carrier, anywhere in Portugal, with each journey arranged on request and scheduled around your travel dates. Concierge work — servicing, IPO inspection, detailing — is priced on request too.
Is there a minimum stay?
There is no template. Most cars stay with us for a season or longer, and some rest for years between drives. Each stay is shaped around how you actually use the car, so tell us your circumstances and we will structure the stay and the quotation around them.
Is it cheaper to leave my car at Faro Airport?
For a short trip, perhaps. For a season, airport parking is parking, not storage: no battery conditioning, no tyre care, and no one watching the car. Current long-stay tariffs are published by ANA at store.ana.pt — compare them with what the car will need when you return.
Do I still pay IUC and insurance while the car is stored?
Yes. IUC is due every year until you sell the car or its registration is formally cancelled, and third-party insurance remains compulsory unless the car is formally withdrawn from use. Our guide to IUC, insurance and IPO explains each obligation.
A QUOTATION, NOT A TARIFF.
We price around the car and the owner rather than a rate card. Tell us what you drive, roughly how long it will rest and whether you would like it collected, and we will reply within one working day with a tailored quotation. Viewings are private and by appointment.
